Oconee Performing Arts Society had a fantastic first week of their 2021-2022 Flavor.

OPAS kicked off the season with its outset educational Master Class with guest artist Bronson Norris Murphy. Forty Greene County High School and Lake Oconee Academy fine-art students attended the program. One student commented, "Nosotros've never seen anything like this earlier. It was such a neat experience to learn from a professional Broadway role player." OPAS Creative Director Doug LaBrecque commented, "Seeing kids engaged, asking great questions, and learning new skills justifies what nosotros desire to accomplish with our educational outreach. programming."

On Fri, Sept. 10, the organization wowed its audience with Broadway Sings for OPAS. LaBrecque curated a star-studded production showcasing four extraordinary Broadway veterans that transported the audience from Main Street to 42nd Street. OPAS supporter Betsy Peck commented, "Nosotros had a wonderful time beingness entertained past Doug and the guest artists. Maestro Malina didn't disappoint, the orchestra outperformed, and the artists were fabled. Loved, loved, loved all of them. It was an amazing performance and especially amazing for Greensboro, Georgia. We are lucky.."

Tony laurels-winning conductor Stuart Malina set up the tone for the evening with his jovial repartee and masterful skills on the podium. He led a hand-selected symphony orchestra featuring some of Georgia'southward A-list musicians.

The concert began with a stunning rendition of Bernstein's West Side Story. The audience roared in approval. The mannerly Maestro captured the audience'due south hearts in another memorable moments: singing in "Exist Our Guest" and having Uga join him while playing solo pianoforte for the Gershwin encore.

Vocalist Mamie Parris impressed the audition with the showstopper, "Don't Pelting On My Parade." Parris afterwards recreated her celebrated Broadway performance of Grizabella in Cats. The OPAS audition gave her a continuing ovation for her spine-tingling rendition of "Memory."

Phantom of the Opera star Bronson Norris Murphy's passionate estimation of "Why God Why" from Miss Saigon invoked a range of powerful emotions alongside his masterful vocals. Murphy and the evening's soprano, Madison Claire Parks, mesmerized the audience with the lushly romantic duet "All I Ask of You." Parks shared personal Phantom of the Opera anecdotes and went on to bring the crowd to its anxiety again after a pitch-perfect high C at the end of "Retrieve of Me."

OPAS is nether the exciting new direction of Artistic Managing director Doug LaBrecque, Board Chair Margie Eddy-Forbes, Treasurer Alan Welch, Secretary Wendy O'Toole and Board Members Riezl Baker, Dennis Crosby, Leslie Flintstone, Tim Hong, Mike Miller, Shannon Osborne and Sharlene Pigg. Alongside Business Director Erin Garrett and Marketing and Education Coordinator Sandra Meng, this energetic team is revitalizing the organization and alluring extraordinarily positive word of mouth in the customs.

OPAS is seeing a surge of new supporters and welcoming back those that had taken some time off during the pandemic. Since the Memorial 24-hour interval Weekend Concert, the organization has increased its membership by more than 10 percent. New fellow member Darlene Honaman shared her sentiments, "Give thanks you lot for bringing such fantabulous performances to this community. I am proud to be a donor. I tin't wait until the next bear witness."

OPAS is generously supported by members and corporate sponsors, bringing remarkable fine-fine art performances and educational outreach programs to the Lake Land Community.
